EUCEN has a long history working the area of Validation of Prior Learning (VPL). An important push was done with the Transfine project, that drew on the experience of experts from different areas to propose a design for a European Framework for the recognition of non-formal and informal learning. The project reviewed the state of the art of recognition of non-formal and informal learning at European level in 2002, carried out a needs analysis and proposed the future of VPL in Europe. The way of work was very innovative and the different stakeholders learnt a great deal from each other.
