EUCEN’s next step on diversity and inclusion has been the SMILE project, that has identified three main areas of inequity in HE and has developed tools around them.
SMILE has developed the European Diversity Audit Model (that allows universities to self-assess their strategies and approaches in diversity and inclusion). It has also created 4 CPD courses for HE staff (an introduction to diversity and inclusion and 3 courses each focusing in one of the 3 SMILE main working areas). The project has developed the SMILE Policy Recommendations and Action plan with 10 Principles and 3 main areas of action: Policy Makers, HEI top management and Civil society.
The three working areas of SMILE are: migrant background students, women in leadership, and low socio-economic income students.
