The European VET Providers Association (VET4EU2) presented to the DG Education and Culture (EAC) of the European Commission a policy contribution entitled ‘Flexibility in vocational and professional education-Level 4 and higher’. The memo stresses the importance of flexibility and connection between VET and higher (vocational) education.

The policy contribution, presented by Rene van Schalkwijk (president of Euprovet) on behalf of VET4EU2 to Joao Santos (acting head of unit at DG EAC), highlights the need for flexible possibilities to move from level 4 Vet education to level 5 and further education. It is considered important not only in initial education but especially also to encourage higher schooling at later phases in some ones working life. This would require also the recognition of the results of prior and informal learning during working life. According to the document, the use of on line learning tools could also facilitate learning, especially at a later age when work often has to be combined with education.

Mr. Santos said that the EU Commission welcomes contributions by the VET providers associations, especially now that the Bruges communique is under evaluation. He asserted that will look closely at the memo and will take it into consideration in the present policy development on VET at the EU level.
