Director-General of DG EMPL, Mr Joost Korte, joined last week eucen‘s conference in Utrecht and gave the closing keynote speech of the event on Friday. His focus was in three main areas:

– Social Europe
– Upskilling and lifelong learning
– the need to build bridges between business and academia

The speech also included references to the green and digital transitions.

In conclusion we can say that Mr Korte clearly understands the importance of university lifelong learning and the need to promote and support this kind of education.

Many of the areas that the European Commission are addressing are areas of work of eucen. Mr Korte invited our new President, Pascal Paschoud, to set a meeting in Brussels to discuss closer collaboration of eucen in Europe. We are hopeful that this meeting will materialise in autumn – more details about this will be shared with the eucen community soon!
