European Journal of University Lifelong Learning

The European Journal of University Lifelong Learning (EJULL) aims to provide a platform for international, in-depth, cutting-edge research in the field of Lifelong Learning in Higher Education. The first issue was published in 2017, as part of the 49th eucen conference on the topic of “University Lifelong Learning and the labour market in Europe – The contribution of continuing education and vocational education to the challenges of changing work and qualifications requirements”. However, it wasn’t until 2nd June 2021 during the online experts seminar that the EJULL (which had been called the eJournal of University Lifelong Learning untile then) would transform and develop into its current iteration under its new name. Ever since, one or two issues have been published every year, amounting to nine issues in seven volumes in total. These have had various thematic focuses within the field of University Lifelong Learning, ranging from digitalisation and active citizenship to inclusive and impactful learning. The most recent issue tackles the complex topic of flexible learning, which is conceptualised and analysed along four dimensions: digital learning, responsible learning, professional learning and inclusive learning.

Since its inception, EJULL has sought to combine theory and practice, bringing together researchers, practitioners, administrators, and teaching and management staff to address the multi-faceted and complex challenges that universities face in pursuing a lifelong learning approach. The editorial board encourages contributions from authors from across Europe as well as further afield, and welcomes a range of formats: One of the most common types of papers published are “Innovative Practice” articles, which highlight new developments in higher education pedagogy or management, state-of-the-art approaches to learning and teaching, or project-based collaborations in the field of University Lifelong Learning. Longer, more detailed “Research Papers” are, by contrast, based on original, evidence-based, qualitative or quantitative research undertaken on a topic related to University Lifelong Learning.
