The hybrid Kick off Meeting of the Food Includes project was hosted by Career Plus on 14-15 March in Szczecin 2024 and allowed to dove deep into next steps for developing the project outputs!

During the meeting, discussions took place regarding the next steps in developing the Seeking Pedagogy, Open Educational Resources (OERs), and the Implementation strategy. The Food as Seeking Pedagogy Starter Kit aims to equip 70+ educators from 7 organisations with foundational knowledge of the “Food Approach”, fostering its application as a seeking pedagogy to enhance competences in disadvantaged learners. It includes providing new knowledge, building motivation, and offering skills through a Starter Pack resource and an Orientation Day.  The OERs will incorporate food festivals, recipe books, and more, emphasizing self-efficacy and will allow educators to choose from seven modules tailored to their cultural and pedagogical preferences for the labour market. Implementation tasks target recruitment, engagement, and learning outcomes across seven adult centres. Objectives encompass developing competences in a cohort of 100+ learners and evaluating inclusion and skills development. The implementation tasks also include the preparation of study’s findings to contribute to the shift from knowledge-based to competence development approaches in adult education.

At its core, the Food Includes project is to create innovative and inclusive food-based training programs, tackling the challenges of inclusion and diversity within adult and continuing education centres. The unique “seeking pedagogy” aims to reach, recruit, and engage traditionally excluded or non-interested learners, with a particular focus on adult and continuing education centres. The thematic focus on food aims to harness inherent advantages in fostering cultural and generational inclusivity. This approach attracts a diverse types of marginalized adult learners, including those venturing into education for the first time.
